An incredibly strong mom shares her PPD story

Wow. I just read a couple of recent posts on a blog by a mom who is sharing her postpartum depression story. And wow. What a story and how brutally honest and beautiful her writing is. I admire her so much for diving down to the depths of her PPD suffering and bringing up to the surface the shocking yet very true feelings that so many of us have had but are afraid to admit. Please go read her story.

I am SO glad I found your blog!!!! I am a mom of 5, (ages 8,6,4 and 1 yr old twins). I have had PPD after each pregnancy. Each time it became harder to handle. The last pregnancy was not planned (and neither was having twins!) it was a shock. It really messed me up. The psychiatrist had me try so many different meds and combinations of meds. Finally we found a combo of anti-psychotic, stimulant and anti-depressants worked well. I just weaned off all but the anti-depressants. The dr says I will be on this forever. It is really depressing to think that, so i am just trying to make it through each day.

PPD SUCKS! I have been told that I was a sinner, doing something wrong, that I should just snap out of it. My dh was and is so supportive. I would not be alive without him. Literally, without him I would have taken my own life after this last pregnancy. We went into debt $10,000 to hire a nanny for me for 4 months after the twins were born. He was afraid to leave me alone with the kids. I was so suicidal.

Once my twins start Elementary School, I am going back to college to get my masters in psychology. I want to help women who suffer from this disease. They need to know they are NOT alone and it is NOT their fault!

I look forward to reading your blog more!

Thanks so much for the link, Kristen. I wanted to let you and your readers know that because I've received so many positive comments about my story, I have started writing a memoir. There are many PPD memoirs out there, but I have not seen one written by a postpartum psychosis survivor and I think that because my story is so dramatic, it will be of interest to people.

Since there were so many people following the story, I am going to continue telling bits and pieces of it through the blog. I can't post excerpts from the manuscript, but I am going to try to use the blog to reflect on my experience as I write the story, if that makes any sense.

So, I just wanted to invite you and your readers to check back with my blog if you are interested in reading more of my story. Thanks so much and I am so grateful for your site! I wish I had seen it last year.
